Strollo provided essential mechanical design, process and manufacturing development services for the Encaptra® product. The ViaCyte device is a sealed vessel that robustly contains stems cells but is permeable to biologically active materials provided by the surrounding vascular structure. In addition to the device development, there was significant R&D into filling, sealing, storing, unpackaging, and implanting the device.
Strollo was engaged to develop specialty manufacturing fixtures require to fabricate the early prototypes. As the effort progressed, we produced the design for the injection molded carrier that holds the product during filling, storage and transport. Parallel to this, we designed and fabricated supporting fill and seal equipment, RF sealers, and tools required all the way from the clean room to the surgical center.
